In the 1600’s mummies were found in a town called Venzone, Italy. These mummies were not wrapped or treated by humans, but preserved by nature. Scientists are still not sure how this happened, because it is very rare and unusual.
A French writer named F. Savorgnan de Brazza wrote an article about these mummies in 1906. He said that they looked like normal people, but very light and dry.
He thought that maybe a kind of fungus was responsible for keeping them from decaying.
