Cinema audiences are probably no longer unfamiliar with the title "Even God Must Laugh".


The film is basically about the conflict when a new order and an old era meet. The lives of South Africa's indigenous tribes changed completely when a bottle of Coca-Cola fell from a plane.

The director wanted to make a project about indigenous people as close to real life as possible, so he hired a real indigenous person to act in the film. His name is N!xau - an indigenous person with a peaceful life. before the white man knocked on the door. Even God Must Laugh The first part is the most successful film in South African history, made with a budget of only 5 million USD but excellently brought in a profit of up to 200 million.


With the money the studio earned, main actor N!xau was paid only 300 USD. The indigenous person N!xau did not have any opinion at that time because he did not understand much about the value of money. It wasn't until the second part was released 9 years later that N!xau realized how disadvantaged he was at the negotiating table, and asked for a salary of 80 thousand USD. With that money, he was able to build a spacious house for his family, continue to work in movies and live another 10 years in peace before passing away at the age of 59.

N!xau may be the actor whose face the whole world knows, but he has never enjoyed the wealth that often comes with such fame.
