Vlad Dracula was an actual person

. He lived several hundred years ago in the Transylvanian area of what is now part of Romania.
Of course he was not a real vampire (is anyone?), but apparently he was a pretty nasty dude. As a military leader, his favorite method of execution of his enemies was impalement, which constituted inserting a large pole or spike thru the body causing a slow painful death.
He is credited with having tens of thousands of his enemies impaled and put on display. Hence his monniker “Vlad the Impaler”.
Rumors of him being a vampire started because he managed to escape death on several occasions. Eventually he was captured and decapitated by the Turkish soldiers and his head was sent back to Istanbul to prove he was actually dead. No one knows what happened to the rest of his body.
