80-year-old woman completes annual 600-mile trek with her pony and dog

Every year, Jane Dotchin packs her saddlebags and sets off on an epic journey from her home near Hexham, Northumberland, up to Inverness, Scotland.
Since 1972, Jane, 80, has been headng on this annual trip on her 13-year-old horse, Diamond, travelling 600 miles on horseback.
This time, she began her journey on August 31, with her disabled Jack Russell, Dinky, for company as she covers between 15 and 20 miles a day.
The trip sees Jane carrying everything she needs on her back, including her tent, food, and a few key belongings.
After that initial journey, she caught the taste for the open road, and travelled to visit friends near Fort Augustus, near Loch Ness, Highlands, every autumn since.
Her epic journey usually takes around seven weeks, depending on weathr, and Jane uses it as a chance to pop in and say hi to people she has met over the years.
She sustains herself on porridge, oatcakes, and cheese, and doesn’t need much electricity as she has an old mobile phone with a battery that lasts six weeks ❤️

After nearly 80,000 American and Filipino soldiers surrendered to the Japanese following the excruciating three-month Battle of Bataan, there were even greater horrors in store for them. The prisoners were forced to march more than 60 miles through the tropical heat of the Philippines with almost no water and just one bowl of rice for the entire week. And those who survived the marching were treated to worse brutality by their captors. The luckier victims were shot to death, while others were disemboweled, emasculated, decapitated, or even crucified. In the end, as many as 18,000 prisoners were dead within the span of just ten days.

The worst rail disaster in Britain took place at Quintinshill (Gretna Green) in Scotland, killing 227 people and injuring 246.   The chain of disaster started when a troop train collided with the stationary commuter train which had been stopped to allow the a delayed Sleeper Service a chance to make up the time lost. This commuter train had been moved from Northbound line to the Southbound mainline rather than into the actual passing loops, these where occupied by two freight trains.  The commuter train was now directly in the path of a troop train carrying 500 men of the 1/7th Leith Battalion of the Royal Scots on route for Gallipoli. All troop trains have clear line status, something that is still enforced today should the need arise. This also means that it’s travelling at full speed and smashed head on into the commuter train.  Just a minute later the Sleeper Service from Euston to Glasgow collided with the wreckage of the troop and commuter train....
