George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence's Strange Death George Plantagenet, 1 st Duke of Clarence, was a 15th century English nobleman who was executed by allegedly being drowned in a vat of Malmsey wine. He was a member of New York and played an important role in the Wars of the Roses. Things got so bad between the brothers that Clarence was eventually accused of plotting to seize the throne for himself. One of the duke’s retainers, an astronomer at Oxford by the name of John Stacey was arrested in 1477 and confessed, under torture, that he along with two others were plotting to kill the king using ‘ black arts'[ ] (https://www.ancient-origins.net/news-myths-legends-africa/ancient-art-magic-curses-and-supernatural-spells-002253).
